The application process is a lengthy one. Aspiring officers are required to pass several rounds of written and verbal exams, attend various interview sessions, go through character verification and medical tests, apart from undergoing a two-year training program before they are inducted into the service.

Each year, tens of thousands of candidates apply for just 15,000+ openings. The recruitment process lasts over six months and has four main stages:
